Wondering what a psychological evaluation looks like? Here’s what happens during a psychological evaluation at KIN & KiDS.

The enquiry

Upon receiving an enquiry, our friendly clinical assistant will contact you to better understand the referral question and to answer your queries. If you have been referred by your medical provider or school, we will communicate with the referrer to be briefed about the referral. Based on the referral question, we will carefully prepare a tailor-made battery of instruments/evaluation procedures to based on the reasons for referral.  We will send you an estimate quote to give you an idea of the fees involved.

Clinical Interview and Screening

During our first meeting, our psychologist will clarify the purpose of the evaluation and current concerns. She will gather background information of client’s concerns and relevant family, medical, and educational histories. She may also administer screening tests. At the end of the session (75- 120 minutes), our psychologist will discuss with you options for moving forward, such as whether to proceed with a comprehensive evaluation or what other services to consider first. Once you are ready to proceed with the full evaluation, we will schedule further interview/testing sessions.

The Evaluation

Our evaluation may include clinical observations, administration of valid and reliable psychometric instruments, and collateral information gathering like telephone interview, questionnaires, reviewing records/reports, and conducting observations. Each session often takes several hours and usually spreads out to two or three days. We will interpret the results thoughtfully in consideration of your context and culture and the rest of the information, and provide a diagnosis, if relevant.

Feedback Session and Report

Within a month from completion of the evaluation, we will prepare a comprehensive and client–friendly written report with evidence-based and  practical recommendations based on our integrated findings. Rest assured that you will not get a cookie-cutter type report filled with clinical jargon and figures that you do not understand.

We will meet you for feedback session to discuss the findings and tailored recommendations. You may then ask any questions to clarify on the results of the psychological evaluation. We will explore the recommended interventions and what to do next. We also offer child-friendly feedbacks to children whom we have evaluated. Most clients will then be ready to move forward with hope with clearer understanding on their concerns.

Evaluation of Previous Psychological Evaluations, Reports, or Diagnosis

Where there is uncertainty about a diagnosis or treatment suggested to you, we also provide a review of previous psychological report and provide a second opinion on the current diagnosis/treatment.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
