William Duprey

Intern Therapist

Journeying with others in their search for understanding has shown me that we are all students of life, learning through both suffering and connection. Therapy offers a space to explore meaning, cultivate courage, and move toward a life that feels authentic and deeply lived.

Before entering the helping profession, I earned a B.A. in Sociology and an M.S. in Behavioral and Organizational Psychology. For over 20 years, I worked internationally as a yoga educator and program developer, which naturally led me to train as a mental health practitioner. I am currently in my final year of the Masters in Counseling Psychology program at Kairos University in New York.

Prior to my internship at KIN & KiDS, I worked in two private clinics in New York City, supporting adolescents and adult men with adjustment disorders, depression, anxiety, and obsessive–compulsive tendencies, often with relational or existential concerns. My work frequently addressed procrastination, self-criticism, intimacy challenges, and life transitions. I discovered that I could work well with adolescent boys, and enjoyed working collaborative with their families to improve communication and trust.

I also work with individuals experiencing concerns related to compulsive behaviors, including process addictions. I also support clients navigating complex identity and relationship dynamics. My focus is on helping clients explore meaning, develop self-understanding, and build practical tools for growth.

In my current clinical work, I am increasingly supporting individuals navigating process addictions, including concerns related to pornography use and compulsive sexual behaviors. I work with clients to explore the underlying emotional, relational, and behavioral patterns that sustain these cycles, often integrating cognitive-behavioral approaches with trauma-informed care. I also have a growing focus on complex trauma, helping clients make sense of how past experiences shape present identity, relationships, and coping strategies.

I am particularly interested in working with men, including those from diverse cultural backgrounds, who may feel hesitant to seek support. My work aims to create a space where vulnerability, accountability, and personal meaning-making can coexist, especially in areas related to sexuality, identity, and self-regulation.

As an American married to a Malaysian and now living in Malaysia, I bring a multicultural perspective to my work. Practicing in New York City exposed me to clients from diverse backgrounds, deepening my commitment to culturally attuned, inclusive care. My experience as a yoga educator has broadened my understanding of human connection and resilience. I speak fluent English, intermediate Spanish, and beginner Bahasa Melayu.

As your therapist, I aim to create a supportive environment where you can reflect, feel heard, and explore your experiences. I draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and existential principles, and integrate somatic approaches from my yoga background to help clients notice and understand how emotions are experienced in the body, with particular application to behavioral patterns, compulsive processes, and sexual health concerns.
