Jean Ong

Licensed and Registered Counselor

“Every moment of our lives is a second chance.”

This belief has shaped both my life and my work. After over 30 years in the corporate world, I felt a deep calling to follow my true passion—helping others heal and grow. A pivotal moment in my late 40s, combined with the stillness and reflection brought by the 2020 pandemic, gave me the clarity and courage to make the life-changing decision to return to university to be trained as a professional counsellor.

As a mother of two young adults, I understand firsthand the joys, worries, and complexities of parenting. I am passionate about supporting parents through this journey with empathy, understanding, and practical guidance. I also have a strong commitment to working with couples and adults facing relational challenges—whether it’s difficulties with communication, trust, emotional intimacy, or navigating life’s transitions. I align closely with KIN & KiDS’ systemic approach to therapy, as I believe healthy relationships are the foundation of emotional wellbeing. My aim is to create a safe, compassionate space where couples and individuals can explore patterns, heal old wounds, and build stronger, more authentic connections.

I also work with adults carrying unresolved trauma or painful experiences from childhood that continue to shape their self-perception and relationships. When you are ready, we can gently explore these experiences in a supportive, non-judgmental environment, fostering healing, resilience, and new ways of living and relating.

As your therapist, I work collaboratively with you, drawing from an integrated range of approaches tailored to your needs. At the heart of my work is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which helps deepen emotional connection and resolve relational pain. I also incorporate elements of Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Brainspotting, and EMDR, allowing us to work in a way that best supports your unique journey.

I believe in investing in ongoing professional development through continuing education and regular supervision, ensuring my practice remains current, ethical, and effective.

I speak fluent English, Mandarin and Cantonese, and basic Malay.
