Lee Shealin
Licensed and Registered Counselor (Malaysia)
Life often comes with unexpected events and circumstances that sometimes challenge the core of our being. I believe that we have what it takes within us to make good choices, to discover our strengths and to find hope in the midst of hopelessness. I see my role as a therapist is to journey with my clients by meeting them where they are, helping them to discover their strengths and empowering them to reach their full potential in a safe and accepting space.
I worked with Yayasan Generasi Gemilang for 4.5 years as the Program Lead for Kid Services and Family Champion. I also was in close engagement with Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), Pure Life Society, a government children home and Women’s Aid Organization (WAO) by providing intervention and counselling services. I was then attached full-time with an international non-profit organization overseas, Youth With A Mission (YWAM) for two years.
My work took me around the world where I focused on advocating against social injustice across different nations (South Africa, Kolkata & Lesotho, and Perth) by leading workshops and conducting talks. Aside from prevention-based work (e.g.: awareness workshops), I also provided emotional support for women in safe houses and conducted pre-school training for teachers.
I have a special interest in working with children, teens, and their families. My clinical experience includes working with clients who struggled with low self-esteem, abuse, grief and loss, anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship and other issues. I have also facilitated group work with young girls to build on personal strengths: self-identity, trust and unity, communication skills; as well as supported parents through psycho-education and parenting workshops.
In the therapy sessions, I employ different approaches such as Person-Centered Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Play Therapy and Sandtray Therapy. In addition, I will also tailor therapy modalities based on what would best suit my client’s needs.
I speak English, Mandarin, Bahasa Melayu, and Hokkien.
