Tina Tey

Clinical Psychologist (Malaysia)

As a therapist, I’ve often had clients coming in hoping to get some advice on what course of action they should take to resolve their problems. In reality, what I do as a therapist is to form a collaborative working relationship with my clients to help them understand more of themselves and identify personal strengths and resources to resolve problems. I believe that when my clients are able to express their thoughts and feelings in a safe and accepting place, they will harness their potential in reconciling painful issues and start working towards their goals in therapy. The process of therapy could be painfully awakening, but nonetheless fulfilling.

I completed a clinical internship at the Psychiatric Department, Penang General Hospital where I conducted neuropsychological assessments for patients with brain trauma and provided supportive therapy for in-patients on various mental health issues.

I was a social medical worker at the hospital and also volunteered my services at an NGO that provides interventions for children with developmental and learning difficulties. I was also part of the psychological team for the Yu-Shu (China) Post Earthquake Psychological Relief Work.

I have been actively practicing as a psychologist in private practice, doing both psychological assessments and psychotherapy on a full-time basis. A large part of my clinical work included conducting psychoeducational assessments for children and adolescents with learning and behavioral difficulties (i.e. autism, ADHD, and cognitive delays etc) to help them identify their learning strengths and needs as well as to explore best interventions with their parents. My clinical portfolio includes working with clients who are struggling with depression, anxiety and phobias, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, selective mutism, school refusal, self-harm, anger, bullying and trauma.

I’m a mother of 3 young children.

I speak English, Mandarin, Malay and Hokkien.
