Chan Hui Sian

Clinical Psychologist

While it may be a survival instinct for human beings to find ways treating physical injuries, it is way tougher to admit when our thoughts and feelings are hurting and to ask for help with mental health. I believe that your decision to take the step forward to seek professional mental health support is the beginning of your journey of growth, as change must first start with the willingness to change.

I am a registered member of the Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology (MSCP) and have a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from HELP University. I completed my clinical practicum at University Putra Malaysia (UPM) Teaching Hospital and HELP University’s Center for Psychological and Counselling Services.

At KIN & KiDS, I conduct psychological/psychoeducational evaluations for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, specific learning disorder, intellectual disability and other mental health conditions. I also provide psychotherapy; my clinical experiences include working with clients with depressive disorders, bipolar disorders, anxiety and panic disorders, selective mutism, trauma, personal relationship problems, as well as other psychological distress.

Prior to pursuing my Master’s degree, I worked as the office manager cum clinical assistant at KIN & KiDS for three years, where I conducted initial phone consultations, attended and liaised with clients as well as our corporate and non-profit partners, and supporting the director in managing the practice. I also had experience working as an intern at counseling and supporting department of a funeral service center, as well as a teaching assistant at a child development center.

I have a keen interest working with children, adolescents and young adults. I believe in systemic approach, whereby an individual’s behaviours, thoughts, and feelings are viewed in the context of relationship system with others. As such, I have attended a further training in Emotionally Focused Family Therapy. I have also completed a 45-hour graduate-level continuing education course of Child-centered Play Therapy and Foundations in Play Therapy.

Our sessions will begin with an initial intake assessment, during which I will listen to your concerns and gather background information to have a better understanding about your past experiences associated to your current concerns. In the later sessions, we will set therapy goals together and review the therapy progress after a specific number of sessions. My interventions are mainly guided by the theories of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, as well as Emotionally Focused Family Therapy.

I adhere to the Code of Ethics of the American Psychological Association (APA). I seek regular clinical supervision and attend workshop training to continue improving my clinical competency, and to ensure that you will receive care in line with ethical and professional standards.

I speak English, Malay, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
