Chan Hui Sian
Clinical Psychologist
While it may be a survival instinct for human beings to find ways treating physical injuries, it takes much more courage to acknowledge our psychological pain and to seek mental health support. I believe that your decision to take the step forward to seek professional psychological service is the beginning of your journey of growth, as change must first start with the willingness to change.
I graduated with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from HELP University. I completed my final clinical practicum at KIN & KiDS under the supervision of Charis Wong, the director and founder of KIN & KiDS, and Frances Lim, an experienced clinical psychologist. My other clinical practicum sites include University Putra Malaysia (UPM) Teaching Hospital and HELP University’s Center for Psychological and Counselling Services (CPCS). My training as a clinical psychologist includes conducting psychological assessment and psychoeducational evaluations for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, intellectual disability, and autism spectrum disorder. I have also conducted psychotherapy with adults struggling with mood disorders, anxiety and panic disorders and trauma, personal relationship problems, as well as other psychological distress.
Prior to pursuing my Master’s degree, I worked as the office manager cum clinical assistant at KIN & KiDS for three years, where I conducted initial phone consultations, attended and liaised with clients as well as our corporate and non-profit partners, and supporting the director in managing the practice. I also had experience working as an intern at counseling and supporting department of a funeral service center, as well as a teaching assistant at a child development center. I have also completed a 45-hour graduate-level continuing education course of Child-centered Play Therapy and Foundations in Play Therapy.
Our sessions will begin with an initial intake assessment, during which I will listen to your concerns and gather background information to have a better understanding about your past experiences associated to your current concerns. In the later sessions, we will set therapy goals together and review the therapy progress after a specific number of sessions. I will work collaboratively with you to create a safe environment for you to explore and to work with your struggles following your own pace and comfort level.
I adhere to the Code of Ethics of the American Psychological Association (APA). I seek regular clinical supervision and attend workshop training to continue improving my clinical competency, and to ensure that you will receive care in line with ethical and professional standards.
I speak English, Malay, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
