Deciding to seek professional help is often unnerving. Many of us would be embarrassed to admit to our family and friends when at a particularly difficult juncture in life. We need support and help, what more professional support in the form of therapy. I admit as the eldest son (and first grandson) of a Chinese patriarch culture, I was once apprehensive about therapy too. After all, in my culture; independence and the ‘I-have-got-it-all-together, I-really-am-okay’ attitude is expected while avoiding authenticity and shunning vulnerability.

It was not until a few years ago when I went through one of the most difficult times in my life that I gained valuable life lessons through reading, meditating, reflecting, and seeking professional help. In my own personal therapy, I learned that it is a place where clarity, hope, strength, and motivation could be rediscovered and gained. Likewise, as your therapist, I aim to provide you a safe place where you can start healing and working towards goals in therapy using your resources and unique strengths. As Irvin Yalom once said, “Only the wounded healer can truly heal.”

I have a keen interest in working with relationship and marriage issues of sexual addiction, infidelity and relationship affairs, anxiety, depression, PTSD, complicated families and in-laws, attachment injuries, forgiveness and reconciliation, and past sexual trauma.

I am well-versed with Discernment Counseling, a specific counseling approach to help couples with divorce ambivalence. Discernment Counseling differs from regular marriage therapy by not solving problems in the relationship, but to figure out whether the problems can be solved; involves mainly individual conversations with each partner; and, it is always short term. I  specialized in couples and marriage therapy through Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and have completed 84-hours of EFT Externship and Core Skills Trainings in Melbourne & Brisbane, Australia and various modality specialised seminars.

Since 2014, I have been the consultant and trainer for the PREPARE/ENRICH and Couple Checkup programs in Malaysia, where I interface with couples of diverse backgrounds, facilitating pre-marital counseling and marriage assessments as well as consult and train others on pre-marital and marriage enrichment programs.

I am fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia and am comfortable conducting therapy in both of these languages.
