Jessie Foo

Clinical Psychologist

Experiencing a major obstacle in your life can render you feeling very trapped and overwhelmed. When loved ones and friends do not understand your experiences, or when well-meaning advice either doesn’t help, we end up feeling very confused, alone and helpless. Talking about our very personal problems and struggles in life can therefore be difficult, hence it requires courage to seek the professional help of a therapist.

I have always been fascinated by relationships that impact our emotional well-being. As a new mother, I learned to appreciate how my relationship with my own original family influenced the way I interact with my child and others. I believe that having new meaningful relational experiences with others can enhance our mental health and quality of life.

As your therapist, it is important that I get to know you and we make a connection. I therefore invite you to share with me your life stories and relationship with the significant people in your life. I will also create a safe space for you to unload your hurts and pains. I will walk with you in your journey towards change and growth. I believe that you have the power to overcome your challenges, as I have witnessed many inspirational moments of positive transformation with my clients.

My clinical experience consists of working with older children, teenagers and adults in an outpatient private practice center and as a clinical psychologist in Sunway Medical Centre. I have also been a lecturer of psychology in colleges and universities for 5 years. I have worked with clients on a wide range of psychological issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar, eating issues, and self-harm behaviors. I adopt the cognitive-behavioral and systemic approach in counselling.

Other than psychotherapy, I provide psychological assessments for children with developmental and learning concerns, particularly autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. Besides that, I have conducted assessments with adults including assessments for psychopathology as well as fitness for duty at work. Additionally, I provide talks of emotional well-being to business organizations. I adhere to the Codes of Ethics of the American Psychological Association (APA).

I speak fluent English and Mandarin, basic Cantonese and Malay.
